AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am

There are few places in the world as nice as Monterey California. The scenery and the history of Pebble Beach is without a doubt some of the most captivating on record.

On this particular Saturday I was forced to go and perform an exhibition for the AT&T Payne Stewart Jr. Clinic as part of the PGA Tour event making its stop at Pebble Beach. What a tough assignment.

The day was made even better when comedian George Lopez happened to hang around to be part of the Jr. Clinic. George was at the range hitting balls and getting ready for the Pro-Am the next week. This is one funny man and he did not disappoint the crowd.  His one liners and zingers were there from start to finish and people got a great taste of his genuine love for the game of golf.

Of course I had to pull him out of the crowd to try and hit a couple shots. To the delight of everyone he missed horribly on several occasions before connecting with a perfect shot down the middle of the fairway. He picked it off a board and hit it flush as I rolled it to him from behind.  No one in the crowd was more surprised than George and he could not hide his excitement at the thought of pulling off this tough trick shot. When I asked him to do it again he was smart enough to say no and just walk away with the crowd convinced he was surely a golf stud.

As a member of the Pinnacle Long Drive Team I have the good fortune of being in front of so many amazing people on a weekly basis. I am grateful and honored to be part of so many cool events. As fun as the day was for everyone this particular clinic was a sad reminder to me of how life can never be taken for granted and how we should not sweat the small stuff. It’s hard to imagine it has been a very short ten years since Mr. Payne Stewart lost his life on that clear October afternoon. The laughs I saw that day were a beautiful reminder of the countless smiles Payne put on peoples faces for so many years.
