Dan Boever is a "HOOT" in Hoot

Dan Boever Makes Big Screen Debut in Hoot.

Dan Boever of Springfield MO, a member of the elite Pinnacle Distance Team and one of golf’s most entertaining personalities, made his big screen debut in Hoot, the film version of Florida author Carl Hiaasen’s prestigious Newbery Honor-winning children’s novel.

Filmed on location in Montana and Florida last summer, Hoot is a mystery-adventure that revolves around a Montana boy who moves to Florida and unearths a disturbing threat to a local population of endangered owls. Hoot is a classic story that's fun for all ages. Boever’s appearance as a golfer, albeit brief, is a scene-stealer that earns one of the earlier laughs in the movie. He attended the Los Angeles premiere on April 15th.

“Getting a chance to spend time with such talented people, from the directors and actors to people behind the scenes that nobody ever gets to see was an amazing experience,” said Boever. “The movie is based on a great story and will be enjoyable for everyone from children to adults.” Wil Shriner, an award winning television director, nationally known comedian and actor, met Boever at a golf outing in Los Angeles several years ago. The two kept in touch and Shriner called Boever when he needed a golfer for a scene in Hoot. Shriner, ever the comedian, saw it differently: “I contacted Dan because the one scene that he is in features an unsuspecting kid getting hit in the head by a wayward golf ball. I have witnessed first-hand Dan’s inaccurate driving ability and thought he fit the role of the golfer perfectly.”

A resident of Springfield Missouri, Boever was an All- America baseball player at the University of Nebraska and toiled seven years in the professional ranks with the Cincinnati Reds, Seattle Mariners and Cleveland Indians organizations. He has been a professional golf entertainer for over nine years and performed over 600 exhibitions worldwide. Boever has competed in the RE/MAX North American and World Long Drive Championships every year since 1996. His longest drive in competition is 473 yards. An original member of the Pinnacle Distance Team and Cobra Long Drive Team, Boever represents the golf brands at exhibitions and competitions throughout the world and has appeared in several print and television commercials.

In addition to being directed by Shriner, Hoot features original music from producer Jimmy Buffett, and stars Luke Wilson.
